Frequently Asked Questions
Is this health center open to the general public, or only Quincy Jones Elementary students?
It is open to everyone! While located on the school campus, our health center provides full medical, dental, and support services to all South Los Angeles residents, whether you have a child at the school or not.
Do parents need to be present during a student’s appointment?
Parental consent forms are required prior to providing student care. Once consent is on file, students can often be seen during the school day without requiring parents to take time off work.
What if I don't have health insurance or cannot pay?
You will never be turned away. We assist families with Medi-Cal/Medicaid enrollment and offer discounted care based on family size and income through our Sliding Fee Scale program.
What does "empanelment" mean, and why should I enroll?
Empanelment simply means pairing you with a dedicated primary care doctor and support team. Instead of seeing a different provider on every visit, you build a long-term relationship with a clinician who learns your health history, listens to your concerns, and provides personalized, ongoing care for you and your family.
Who can join the Empanelment Initiative, and is there an extra cost?
Anyone can join! Whether you are a brand-new patient or have been coming to UCHC for years, you and your family are welcome to enroll. There is no extra fee or hidden cost—it is simply our commitment to providing you with a consistent, trusted care team.
How do I get started or pick my preferred provider?
Signing up is simple! You can initiate empanelment in three easy ways:
In Person: Ask our front desk staff for the Empanelment Form during your next visit.
By Phone: Call our Empanelment Team directly at (323) 233-3100 or speak with any call center agent.
